Roupe Named D1Softball.com National Freshman of the Week

Liberty outfielder Rachel Roupe was named D1Softball.com National Freshman of the Week.
A native of Sharpsburg, Md., Roupe is the first Lady Flames to receive a national weekly award from D1Softball.com. Florida State’s Sydney Sherrill was named National Player of the Week, while Minnesota’s Emily Leavitt was voted National Pitcher of the Week.
This comes on the heels of tree honors for Roupe yesterday. She was named ASUN Player of the Week and also voted to the ASUN All-Conference second team and ASUN All-Freshman Team.
Roupe dominated at the plate in the final week of the regular season, batting 5-for-12 (.417) with four homers, four runs scored, nine RBI, a .462 on base percentage and 1.417 slugging percentage.
She started the week with a base hit against ACC Pitcher of the Year Keely Rochard in a game at No. 2 Virginia Tech.
In game one against Stetson on Thursday, she batted 1-for-3 with a homer, as her fourth-inning solo shot pushed Liberty’s lead to 3-0 in a 4-0 victory.
In the second game, she went 2-for-3 with two homers and five RBI in an 8-0, five-inning win over Stetson. She hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to make it 4-0, Flames. Then, with a runner on and two outs in the fifth, her two-run blast ended the game.
In Friday’s regular-season finale, Roupe batted 1-for-3 with a homer and three RBI. her three-run shot in the fifth inning pushed Liberty’s lead to 6-3.
Roupe became the first Liberty player since 2007 to homer in all three games of a conference series and hit the most homers by a Liberty player in a conference series since 2009.
She leads all ASUN freshmen in homers and RBI both overall (8 HR, 39 RBI) and in conference play (8 HR, 31 RBI).
The Lady Flames (40-16, 23-1 ASUN) are currently preparing for the 2022 ASUN Softball Championship, hosted in Jacksonville, Fla. Liberty earned the No. 1 overall seed and posted a conference-record 23 ASUN victories. The defending tournament champion Lady Flames will open play on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at UNF Softball Complex against either No. 4 seed North Alabama, No. 5 seed Jacksonville State or No. 8 Seed Lipscomb. The title game will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the winner claiming the ASUN’s automatic berth to the 2022 NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
