Rettstatt Tabbed ASUN Player of the Week
For the second time in her career, Liberty forward Bridgette Rettstatt has been named ASUN Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
The native of Galena, Ohio previously earned this award on Feb. 18, 2019, during Liberty’s first season in the ASUN Conference.
Rettstatt helped the Lady Flames win three games in five days last week, leading the team in scoring (14.7 ppg), tying for the team lead in rebounding (6.3 rpg), ranking second in steals (2.0 spg), ranking second in blocks (0.7 bpg) and finishing third in assists (2.3 apg).
Rettstatt contributed 10 points, five rebounds, a team-high five assists and three steals in just 18 minutes of playing time against Bluefield State on Tuesday. Her efforts contributed to the Lady Flames’ 76-30 victory.
Her best game of the week came during Liberty’s South Padre Island Classic opener, Friday versus Grand Canyon. Rettstatt tallied 19 of her season-high 24 points during the second half, helping the Lady Flames break open a tight game into a 76-61 victory. She matched her career high of three triples, grabbed seven boards and came up with two steals.
Rettstatt’s first hoop against UTRGV on Saturday, a three-pointer from the corner at 8:56 of the second quarter, made her the 19th member of Liberty’s 1,000-point club. That triple came during a 14-0 run which gave the Lady Flames the lead for good during their 54-32 triumph over the Vaqueros. Rettstatt finished with 10 points and seven rebounds on Saturday, scoring in double figures for the eighth consecutive game.
Following a 12-day break from competition for Christmas, 11-1 Liberty will return home to close out its non-conference schedule. The Lady Flames will play host to Shepherd on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. inside Liberty Arena.
