After last week’s two wins to kick off ASUN play, Liberty’s Rebekah Earnest has been named this week’s ASUN Defensive Player of the Week. The honor comes after Earnest and Liberty’s backline posted two shutouts over Jacksonville State and North Alabama. This is the first time in Liberty’s four years in the ASUN Conference where Liberty has earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors in three straight weeks.
The junior from Reading, Pa. started last week with a 3-0 shutout over Jacksonville State, as the Lady Flames picked up their first win during conference play. To close out the week, Earnest would score her first career game-winning goal in Liberty’s win over North Alabama. Earnest’s first goal of the season gave Liberty the 1-0 lead over the Lions and would propel the Lady Flames to a 4-0 shutout. Liberty’s backline has tied a program record with seven straight shutouts.
Earnest and the Lady Flames will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 30, and travel to Lipscomb. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
