Liberty’s Connor Polender has been selected the ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week after leading the Flames during the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills.
Polender finished tied for 12th place, firing a 5-under par 211 (70-71-70) on the famed Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.
The three-day event, which concluded on Tuesday, was hosted at the same course where the four-time major champion Brooks Koepka won the 2017 U.S. Open.
Polender’s solid play allowed Liberty to finish its season-opening event in sixth place after carding an 11-under par 853 (287-273-293).
The 12th-place showing marked the second top-20 finish in Polender’s collegiate career. He finished the tournament with a 4.67 stroke average on par-5 holes, helping the Flames rank third in the tournament field in par-5 scoring (4.67 stroke average/-20).
The native of Lake Bluff, Ill., tied for eighth in the 90-player field with 39 pars, while adding 10 birdies. The honor is his first collegiate weekly award and marks the 14th time a Liberty golfer has been selected the ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week.
