Player Focus: Akron
Following Liberty Head Football Coach Hugh Freeze on Monday, the local media spoke with running back Dae Dae Hunter and safety Juawan Treadwell.
Both Hunter and Treadwell played significant roles during Liberty’s 37-36 setback at No. 18 Wake Forest, last Saturday, at Truist Field. Liberty is now 2-3 in its last five games against ACC foes, with all three losses coming by three or fewer points.
Liberty finished the night rushing for 181 yards and two touchdowns, including a season-best 93 yards for Hunter. With the yardage, the Hawaii transfer moves over the 1,000-rushing mark for his collegiate career (834 yards at Hawaii and 219 yards at Liberty).
Treadwell finished the game with four tackles, all solo stops, while adding two pass breakups. Liberty’s defensive effort through the first three games of 2022 has drawn national attention with the Flames ranking No. 1 in the country in turnovers caused (11) and No. 12 in passes intercepted (5).
Flames Milestone Watch
2: WR Demario Douglas has already recorded a pair of games with two TD receptions this season (at Southern Miss, at Wake Forest). If he catches a pair of TD passes on Saturday, Douglas would become the first Flame since Antonio Gandy-Golden (Sept. 14, 2019 vs. Buffalo and Sept. 21, 2019 vs. Hampton) to record multiple TD receptions in back-to-back games. Douglas would also become the first Flame with three games of 2+ receiving TDs since Gandy-Golden (3 in 2018).
10: RB Shedro Louis needs 10 more rushing yards to reach 1,000 for his career. He has carried the ball 32 times during this season’s first three contests, totaling 120 yards and a TD on the ground.
50: If S Javon Scruggs returns to action on Saturday, it would mark his 50th appearance in a Liberty uniform.
