Following a season where the Flames consistently ranked among the top-50 teams in the country, Liberty received another at-large berth into the NCAA Regionals.

The Flames will be the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Stockton Regional, May 16-18. The three-day, 54-hole event will be contested at The Reserve at Spanos Park (par 72, 7,132 yards).

Liberty posted a top-five finish in eight out of 11 events and was ranked as high as No. 22 in the country during the 2021-22 season. Following the ASUN Men’s Golf Championship, Liberty was ranked No. 39 in the April 28 Golfstat national rankings.

The Flames are making their sixth NCAA Regional appearance as an at-large selection in program history and the first since 2019.

In total, Liberty is making the program’s 12th appearance at an NCAA Men’s Golf Regional and the 10th in the last 11 regional events.

Liberty earned automatic bids to the NCAA Regionals with conference titles in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 as a member of the Big South Conference and in 2021 as a member of the ASUN Conference.

The Flames also advanced to postseason regional play with an at-large selection in 2003, 2006, 2013, 2017 and 2019.

The men’s golf program is one of only two teams at Liberty to earn an at-large selection into an NCAA Division I postseason championship. Baseball has earned at-large berths into the NCAA Regionals in 2014 and 2019.

A practice round will be held on Sunday, May 15 with the NCAA Regionals getting underway on Monday, May 16.

The NCAA Stockton Regional was one of six NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals announced by the NCAA Men’s Golf Selection Committee during a special Selection Show broadcast, Wednesday afternoon, on the Golf Channel.

The top five teams from each of the six NCAA Regionals will advance to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds.

The men’s championship will be held May 27 – June 1, with GOLF Channel providing live coverage of the final day of individual championship play on May 30, as well as, the team match play on May 31 and June 1.

With a top-five finish at this year’s NCAA Stockton Regional, the Flames will be looking to make fourth third appearance in program history at the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship.

Liberty has made three previous appearances at the national championship event, finishing in 10th place in 2012, 20th place in 2019 and 21st place showing in 2021, which was also hosted at Grayhawk Golf Club.

The 10th-place showing for the Flames in 2012 at the famed Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. was the best by any of Liberty’s athletics teams at a NCAA Division I national championship event, bettering the men’s outdoor track program that finished 12th in 2011.
