No. 7 seed Liberty Bound for NCAA Bath Regional

5/3/2023 6:24:16 PM | Men's Golf

After claiming its second ASUN Conference title in the last three years, Liberty is heading back to the NCAA Regionals.

The Flames will be the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Bath Regional, May 15-17. The three-day, 54-hole event will be contested at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath, Mich. (par 71, 7,126 yards).

In total, Liberty is making the program’s 13th appearance at an NCAA Men’s Golf Regional and the 11th in the last 12 regional events (Liberty did not make a team appearance at the 2015 NCAA Regionals).

The Flames entered the 2022-23 season as one of 11 teams in the country who have advanced to the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship each of the last three years.

This is Liberty’s seventh trip to the NCAA Regionals after claiming the conference’s automatic bid to the postseason event.

Liberty earned automatic bids to the NCAA Regionals with conference titles in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 as a member of the Big South Conference. The Flames claimed their first ASUN Conference title in 2021.

The Flames also advanced to postseason regional play with an at-large selection in 2003, 2006, 2013, 2017, 2019 and 2022.

A practice round will be held on Sunday, May 14 with the NCAA Regionals getting underway on Monday, May 15.

The NCAA Bath Regional was one of six NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals announced by the NCAA Men’s Golf Selection Committee during a special Selection Show broadcast, Wednesday afternoon, on the Golf Channel.

The top five teams from each of the six NCAA Regionals will advance to the 2023 NCAA Men's Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds.

The men’s championship will be held May 26-31, with GOLF Channel providing live coverage of the final day of individual championship play on May 29, as well as, the team match play on May 30 and 31.

With a top-five finish at this year’s NCAA Bath Regional, the Flames would make their fifth appearance in program history at the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship.

Liberty has made four previous appearances at the national championship event (2012: 12th; 2019: 20th; 2021: 21st; 2022: 26th). The 2021 and 2022 national championship events were also hosted at Grayhawk Golf Club.

The 10th-place showing for the Flames in 2012 at the famed Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. is the second-best finish by a Liberty team at a NCAA Division I national championship event.
