    No. 33 Liberty Finishes in 12th Place at The Prestige

    No. 33 Liberty wrapped up play against the strongest field it will face during the regular season by finishing tied for 12th place at The Prestige on Wednesday.

    The 24-team field featured 11 teams who entered the tournament ranked inside the top 50 in the country in the lastest Golfstat national rankings.

    The strong field faced another tough test on Wednesday, playing the round in winds of 20 to 25 MPH. The challenging playing conditions resulted in a 77.19 scoring average and only two teams not posting a double-digit over-par team score.

    The first two rounds of the tournament, the Greg Norman Course at PGA West (pa 71, 7,100) played at a scoring average of 73.85 (Round 1) and 73.41 (Round 2).

    Liberty finished the tournament with a 12-over par 296, which was the fourth-best team score during the final round. Overall, the Flames carded a 33-over par 886 (296-293-296).

    No. 15 Pepperdine, who claimed the 2021 NCAA national championship, finished atop the leaderboard with a winning score of 8-under par 844 (276-278-290).

    Texas Tech, the highest ranked team in the field at No. 3, took the runner-up spot, finishing six strokes behind Pepperdine with a 2-under par 850 (280-282-288).

    No. 6 Stanford, who shared tournament co-hosting duties with UC Davis, finished in a distance third place with a final score of 5-over par 857 (277-281-299).

    Texas Tech’s No. 4 ranked Ludvig Aberg claimed medalist honors at The Prestige for the third-straight year with a winning individual score of 6-under par 207 (67-70-70).

    Pepperdine’s William Mouw finished one shot off the pace with a runner-up score of 5-under par 208 (65-71-72).

    Liberty was led by Austin Barbin, who finished tied for 32nd place with a 7-over 220 (73-75-72). Barbin climbed 30 spots up the leaderboard during the third round, using four birdies to post a final round 1-over par 72.

    Isaac Simmons followed behind Barbin, finishing tied for 47th place with a 9-over par 222 (75-74-73) after improving each of his three trips around the PGA West course.
