    No. 14 Liberty had one of the best closing rounds at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Sunday, allowing the Flames to finish tied for fourth place.

    The Flames finished the Ohio State hosted event with an 18-over par 870 (291-290-289) following three times around the Ohio State Golf Club – Scarlet Course (par 71, 7,455 yards).

    Liberty closed the event with 5-over par 289, the third-best closing round of the event. The Flames best round of the Intercollegiate allowed Liberty to climb three spots up the final round leaderboard.

    The Flames were paced by Ervin Chang, who finished tied for ninth place with a 2-over par 215 (71-72-72).

    The next time the Flames step on the golf course will be for the 2021 NCAA Regionals (May 17-19). Liberty will learn its NCAA Regional destination during the NCAA Men’s Golf Selection Show that will air on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m. on May 5.

    Round Recap – Liberty’s Starting Five:
    • Ervin Chang – T9 2-over par 215 (71-72-72)
    • No. 6 Kieran Vincent – T25 7-under par 220 (73-75-72)
    • No. 51 Alexandre Fuchs – T25 7-over par 220 (72-73-75)
    • Zach Barbin – T40 9-under par 220 (75-77-70)
    • No. 67 Jonathan Yaun – T40 9-over par 220 (76-70-76)

    Field Reflections:
    • No. 8 Illinois was the only team in the field to be in red figure entering the final round, but Illinois closed the event with an 8-over par 292.
    • No. 8 Illinois was still able to claim the team title with an overall winning score of 7-over par 859 (286-281-292), winning by five strokes.
    • Penn State finished in second place with a 12-over par 864 (288-288-288), followed by tournament host Ohio State finishing in third place with a 13-over par 865 (290-292-283).
    • The Flames finished the event tied with No. 39 Iowa (292-288-290) and No. 40 Kent State (286-293-291) with each team finishing with an 18-over par 870.
    • The Ohio State Golf Club – Scarlet Course played more than two strokes over par to the 16-team field (74.52 scoring average).
    • Only three players in the 90-man field finished the tournament in red figure.
    • Kent State’s Cade Breitenshine claimed medalist honors after posting a winning score of 3-under par 210 (68-70-72).

    Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
    • Ervin Chang’s ninth-place finish gives the senior 21 career top-10 finishes.
    • Chang ranked tied for third place in the 90-man field with 11 birdies.
    • Zach Barbin had the best closing round of the day for the Flames, carding a 1-under par 70.
    • Barbin’s closing round was his fourth round at par or better this season and the 22nd of his Liberty playing career.
    • Kieran Vincent, who is ranked No. 6 in the country, moved 16 spots up the leaderboard on Sunday to finish tied for 25th place with a 7-over par 220 (73-75-72).
