Final Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Singles Rankings

Nicaise Muamba of the Liberty Flames men's tennis squad finished the season as the 105th-ranked singles player in the nation, it was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week.

The ITA released its final Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Singles Rankings following the conclusion of the 2021 Division I Men's Tennis Championship. Muamba finished the year in the No. 105 spot, moving up two spots from where he stood (No. 107) when the previous rankings were released on May 5.

Muamba broke into the national singles rankings at No. 82 on March 30 and was listed among the top-125 players in the nation in each of the final six rankings. He has been nationally ranked 14 times during his career, tying Sam Matheson (2016 and 2018 seasons) for the most national singles rankings in school history. Muamba is the only player in program history to garner a national singles ranking in three different seasons, doing so in each of the last three years.

Muamba earned his second career ASUN Player of the Year honor this spring in helping lead the Flames to their first-ever conference title. Liberty won the 2021 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship crown and captured a program-record 20 matches during the spring season.

The junior from Laval, Quebec, Canada was also named an ASUN All-Conference first team performer. A three-time ASUN Player of the Week honoree this year, Muamba posted a 16-5 record at No. 1 singles and a 4-1 mark against nationally-ranked foes.

Muamba's success also translated to team success for the Flames. Liberty broke into the national rankings for the first time in school history, earning a No. 43 ranking on March 24. The Flames finished the year with a No. 39 ranking on May 26.
