    Jan 19, 2023 | Lynchburg Va | Football

Liberty’s Austin Mock and Dennis Osagiede will begin their quest to play football professionally on Saturday when they participate in the 2023 Tropical Bowl.

The Tropical Bowl is an annual postseason all-star game played in Florida. The 2023 game will be contested at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla., on Saturday. Kickoff for the game is set for 4 p.m. EST and it will be broadcast on All-America TV, a pay-per-view system.

The Tropical Bowl showcases some of the top college football seniors before NFL scouts and general managers who travel from around the country to the event. Over 350 Tropical Bowl alumni have gone on to the NFL since its inception in 2016.

Mock and Osagiede give Liberty four players who are playing in postseason all-star bowl games. They are joined by wide receiver Demario Douglas and defensive end Durrell Johnson.

Following their standout careers at Liberty, Douglas accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl, while Johnson is playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

The East-West Shrine Bowl will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 2. The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will be contested at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., on January 28.

Mock served as Liberty’s long snapper for 61 consecutive games, starting each game in the role since the beginning of the 2018 season.

He was a 2022 Patrick Mannelly Award semifinalist, an award given annually to the top long snapper in the country. Mock was also named to the Phil Steele Postseason All-Independent in 2021 (first team) and 2022 (second team).

During his lone season with the Flames, Osagiede helped Liberty’s defense finish 2022 ranked No. 1 in the country in tackles for a loss (9.3 per game) and No. 3 in sacks (3.46 per game).

The Stephen F. Austin transfer ranked second on Liberty’s 2022 roster in tackles for a loss (12.5/54 yards) and in sacks (6.0/45 yards). Overall, he finished the year with 37 tackles (12 solo, 25 assisted).

The 2022 Phil Steele All-Independent second-team honoree transferred to Liberty from Stephen F. Austin where he played 11 games in 2021, while starting his career at UMass (20 games/2018-19 seasons).
