The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual Individual All-Academic wrestling team and the NWCA Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams for the 2010-11 wrestling season.  Liberty’s 133-pounder T.J. Mitchell is featured on the All-Academic team, while the entire team broke into the top-30 listing.

The individual team, which holds qualifying standards by GPA, season record and accomplishment, featured 93 student-athletes.  Mitchell earned the recognition by posting a 19-16 record and being a NCAA qualifier, while also performing well in the classroom.  Of the 93 recognized, 84 of those wrestlers took part in the NCAA Championships at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia.

As a team, the 2010-11 Liberty wrestling squad scored a 2.98 GPA to be included in the All-Academic Top 30.  The team placed 29th on the listing.  For teams to be eligible for consideration, the team GPA is comprised of 12 student-athletes, including the 10 wrestlers that were the entries in the NCAA Championship conference qualifier.  Harvard took home the top spot of the Top 30 Team for the second straight season with a 3.51 GPA.

The Flames’ appearance on the NWCA All-Academic Top 30 is their third in the last four seasons.  The team was No. 20 in 2009 and placed No. 3 for the 2008 season.
