McGhee Named ASUN Player of the Week for 7th Time
Darius McGhee of the Liberty men’s basketball team was named the ASUN Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the seventh time in his career.
This is McGhee’s second player of the week honor of the season after also receiving it on Nov. 28. His seven career awards are tied for the third most in ASUN history for men’s basketball. McGhee is the first player in the league this season to
McGhee averaged 23.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists in a pair of games last week against Oral Roberts (No. 24) and Bryant (No. 17), who were both ranked in the top 25 of the College Insider Mid Major Top 25.
On Saturday versus Bryant at the Hall of Fame Classic, McGhee scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. He was named MVP of that game. McGhee also passed Stephen Curry on the all-time three-pointers list in NCAA Division I history. Curry had 414 threes in his time at Davidson, and McGhee’s fifth and final three was No. 415 for his career and vaulted him past Curry and into 15th place all-time in NCAA history. The redshirt senior guard added four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Flames’ 82-62 victory over the Bulldogs.
In last Monday’s evening’s road contest at ORU, McGhee scored a team-best 24 points and matched a season high with six threes. The guard added three steals, four rebounds and an assist in that game. McGhee is the team’s leading scorer (21.5 ppg) through 11 games and has 49 three-pointers.
McGhee and the Flames (7-4) are back in action this evening against Grambling State (6-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Liberty Arena.
