Mbuyu Signs with Orlando City B

Former Liberty men's soccer player Tresor Mbuyu has signed with Orlando City B for its inaugural USL League One season. The team serves as reserve team for the MLS Orlando City SC.

Mbuyu becomes the third Liberty player from the 2018 Flames squad to sign with a professional team. Midfielder Kevin Mendoza was selected in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and is currently playing with Los Angeles FC, while defender Geovanny Murillo signed with Carmelita of Liga FPD, the top professional association soccer division in Costa Rica

Mbuyu garnered all-conference team honors for the third straight year in 2018. The forward was named to the ASUN All-Conference first team this past season, while picking up Big South All-Conference honors in 2016 and 2017. The Charlotte, N.C. native was selected to the first team in each of his three seasons at Liberty.

One of only three Flames to start all 15 Liberty contests this season, Mbuyu tied with Mendoza for the ASUN lead in goals with 12 and finished second in the conference in points with 28. He also finished the year second in the ASUN in points per game (1.87) and goals per game (0.80). He attempted the most shots (53) in the conference and tied for sixth in assists (4).     

Mbuyu finished the year among the NCAA Division I leaders in several categories. He completed the year ninth in the nation in points per game, 10th in goals per game and 12th in total goals.

In addition, the forward completed his career among the program's leaders in both goals and points. Mbuyu finished seventh on the on the school's all-time list with 31 career goals and tied for fifth with 79 career points.
