After last week’s two wins, Liberty’s Madison Ellis has been named this week’s ASUN Defensive Player of the Week. The honor comes after Ellis scored a goal and led a backline that posted two shutouts in last week’s wins at Western Carolina and at home against the Lancers. This is Liberty’s first Player of the Week honor this season and first since Melody Jayroe received the honor on Feb. 23, 2021.

Ellis and Liberty started last week with a 1-0 shutout win over Western Carolina as the backline allowed just three shots on goal, keeping the pressure off of Liberty’s goalkeeper Randi Palacios. To wrap up the perfect 2-0 week, Ellis scored her first collegiate goal in Liberty’s win over Longwood. Ellis and the backline were exceptional, allowing Longwood to attempt just three shots throughout the game and just one shot on goal. Liberty has not allowed a goal in the last 270 minutes.

Ellis and the Lady Flames will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 16, and host UNCW. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
