Liberty’s Darius McGhee Named ASUN Player of the Week
For the third time this season Liberty’s Darius McGhee has been named the ASUN Player of the Week. The honor comes after McGhee averaged 36.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists this past week against Central Arkansas, FGCU and Kennesaw State.
In one week of the play McGhee tallied 109 points, as he continues to set new records, setting the Liberty Division I record of most points scored in a season, scoring 765 points and set the Liberty Arena record for most points by an individual in a single game, scoring 47 points in Liberty’s overtime win against Kennesaw State. To begin last week’s game McGhee scored a game-high 34 points in Liberty’s road win at Central Arkansas. In a thriller against FGCU, McGhee would record his second double-double of the season, scoring 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Currently ranks No. 1 in the country three-pointers made (135), total points (765), total field goals made (258) and ranks No. 2 in the country averaging 24.7 points per game. McGhee and the Flames will return to action on Thursday, March 3rd, when Liberty faces the winner of the Lipscomb/North Florida matchup in the ASUN Championship Quarterfinals. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Liberty Arena and can be seen on ESPN+.
