ASUN-leading Liberty topped North Alabama in a pair of extended sets to take a 2-0 lead before finishing off a 3-1 (28-26, 31-29, 18-25, 25-18) win on Friday at Flowers Hall.

With the win, its seventh in a row, Liberty (18-7, 11-2 ASUN) remains in sole possession of first place in conference standings. The Lady Flames are one match ahead of second-place Central Arkansas and FGCU with three matches left. Meanwhile, North Alabama falls to 12-13, 2-11 in ASUN play with its eighth loss in a row.

Notable Numbers

• Liberty outhit North Alabama .144-.126 for the match. The Lady Flames held a distinct 65-44 advantage in digs, while UNA led in both aces (10-9) and blocks (15-9).

• Kate Phillips led all players with 19 kills, just one shy of her career high, while adding 17 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Lydia Burts registered 13 kills and five blocks, while Kamryn Bacus totaled 12 kills. Delaney Dilfer dished out 51 assists in addition to posting four aces, nine digs and three blocks. Erica Lowery collected 11 digs.

• Taylor Floyd (15 kills) and Katy Floyd (14 kills, four aces) combined for 29 out of the Lions’ 43 kills for the match. Elif Ozsoy dished out 35 assists and posted six blocks, while Maggie Sullivan contributed a match-high 10 blocks. Ella Ratzloff collected 11 digs.

Turning Point

• Liberty made clutch play after clutch play in the late stages of each of the first two sets. The Lady Flames won set one 28-26 and battled back from an early 13-7 deficit before winning an extended 31-29 second set.

• North Alabama outhit Liberty .350-.000 during a 25-18 set-three victory to extend the match, but the Lady Flames’ offense clicked at a .560 pace in the fourth, closing out the match, 25-18.

• Liberty is now 10-0 all-time against North Alabama in volleyball.

• Liberty’s current seven-match winning streak is its longest under current Head Coach Trevor Johnson and longest since winnings eight in a row, Sept. 30 through Oct. 22, 2016.

• Burts has posted 10 straight 10-kill matches, the first Liberty middle blocker since Becky Rudnick (10 matches, Sept. 15-Oct. 12, 2007) with 10 or more consecutive double-digit kill contests.

• Dilfer has posted seven 50-assist matches this season, the most 50-assist contests by a Liberty setter since Anna Willey’s seven in 2015.

• Dilfer’s 1,075 assists are the most by a Lady Flame since Anna Willey dished out 1,096 assists in 2015. Her 42 aces are the most by a Liberty play since Lillie Happel served up 51 aces in 2010.

• The Lady Flames, at 11-2 in ASUN play, have posted their most conference wins in a single season since going 11-5 in ASUN matches in 2019.
