    2022-23 Women’s Basketball Schedule

Liberty completed its 2022-23 women’s basketball schedule today with the announcement of 11 non-conference games. The Lady Flames will tip off their 48th season of competition with a Nov. 7 matchup against Richmond at Liberty Arena.

    Home Sweet Home
The Lady Flames will begin their third season at Liberty Arena with three consecutive home games. Liberty will play host to Richmond (Nov. 7), Salem (Nov. 10) and Hampton (Nov. 17) before later returning to Lynchburg for a meeting with Limestone on Dec. 15.

The Nov. 7 opener against the Spiders will mark the second earliest start to a season in program history. Only the 2019-20 season opener (Nov. 5, 2019 at Norfolk State) came earlier in the calendar year.

The Lady Flames are 28-2 all-time at Liberty Arena, which opened its doors on Dec. 1, 2020.

    Road Warriors
Following its three-game season-opening homestand, Liberty will take to the road for five straight contests and eight of nine games overall.

The Lady Flames will play only one home game (Dec. 15 vs. Limestone) between Nov. 17 and Jan. 5, a span of seven weeks.

During this stretch, Liberty will play games in four different states (Virginia, South Carolina, Washington and Florida).

    Competing in the Commonwealth
Liberty will begin the 2022-23 campaign with seven straight games within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Lady Flames will not leave the state until making a Dec. 11 visit to defending national champion South Carolina.

The Lady Flames will face four in-state foes overall, including Richmond (Nov. 7 at home), Hampton (Nov. 17 at home), James Madison (Nov. 23 away) and Radford (Dec. 4 away). Liberty has squared off with all four squads many times previously, as this will mark the Lady Flames’ 26th meeting with Richmond, 20th meeting with Hampton, 17th meeting with James Madison and 71st meeting with Radford.

Radford is the most frequently played opponent in Liberty’s program history. However, the Lady Flames’ Dec. 4 visit to the Dedmon Center will be the teams’ first contest since Feb. 13, 2018, during Liberty’s final season of Big South competition.

    Battling the Best
The Lady Flames’ Dec. 11 contest at South Carolina will pit Liberty against the defending national champion Gamecocks.

This will be Liberty’s third all-time meeting against the defending champion, following previous matchups with Tennessee (March 14, 1998) and Baylor (Nov. 23, 2012).

    Tournament Time
Liberty will take part in two regular-season tournaments, including the Cav Classic (Nov. 26 & 27 at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va.) and Husky Classic (Dec. 18 & 19 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Wash.).

This will mark the Lady Flames’ third tournament at John Paul Jones Arena and first since the Cavalier Classic on Dec. 28-29, 2016.

Liberty has not visited Seattle since being a part of the Seattle Times Classic on Dec. 19-20, 1998.

The Lady Flames went 2-0 at both of their regular-season tournaments a year ago, including the Navy Classic (Nov. 27-28 in Annapolis, Md.) and the South Padre Island Classic (Dec. 17-18 in South Padre Island, Texas).

    A Few Firsts
The Lady Flames will face a pair of first-time opponents during the non-conference portion of their schedule, including Salem (Nov. 10 at home) and SIUE (Dec. 19 in Seattle, Wash.).

Liberty will visit both James Madison’s new Atlantic Union Bank Center (Nov. 23) and South Carolina’s Colonial Life Center (Dec. 11) for the first time this season. The Gamecocks averaged an NCAA-leading 12,268 fans for their home games last season.

    Game Times
Ten of Liberty’s 13 home games this season will tip off at 7 p.m. The lone exceptions include the team’s two doubleheaders with the men’s basketball team (Nov. 7 and Jan. 5), both of which will begin at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Flames’ only Sunday home game (Jan. 8 vs. Jacksonville) will tip off at 2 p.m.
