Quick Hits

• Liberty travels to DeLand, Fla. for a  three-game ASUN series at Stetson, this weekend. Stetson and Liberty will be meeting in their second ASUN series of 2022. The Hatters took two of the three games at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, March 27-29. The Flames will be visiting Stetson for the first time since 2019.

• On Wednesday, the Flames saw their four-game winning streak come to an end 8-1 at North Carolina. Even with the loss, the Flames have won eight out of their last 11 games.

• Liberty has won five-straight ASUN Conference contests and enters the weekend in second place in the ASUN East Division with a 12-6 mark, one game behind Kennesaw State at 13-5.

• Head Coach Scott Jackson is in his sixth season at Liberty. He has led the Flames to a 184-106 record and NCAA Regional appearances in 2019 and 2021 during his tenure.

Gulakowski’s Big Night

• Designated hitter Brady Gulakowski became the first Flame to hit three home runs in a game in 15 years in Liberty’s win over North Florida at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, this past Friday.

• Gulakowski became the first Flame since Tim Nanry in a 28-7 win over Richmond at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. on Feb. 18, 2007, hit three home runs in a game.

• The senior went 4-for-4 with eight RBI and four runs scored in the 22-4 victory over North Florida. He hit a three-run home run in the first, a grand slam in the second and a solo shot in the fifth inning in the contest, all on the first pitch of his at bat. With his three home runs on the night, Gulakowski upped his season total to nine.

• Gulakowski set new career-highs for hits, home runs, RBI and runs scored in the contest.

• His eight RBI were one shy of the program record of nine by Tyler Bream on March 22, 2009 in a win over High Point and Pat Sipe on April 19, 1986 in a win over Richmond.

Stetson - Liberty Part I

• For the first time since May 11-13, 2018, Liberty dropped a three-game series at home when Stetson took two out of three games of the series at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, earlier this season (March 25-27).

• Playing without catcher Gray Betts, the Flames, then ranked No. 15 in the nation, took the first game of the series 4-3 on a walk-off single by Three Hillier. With two outs in the ninth and runners on the corners, Hillier ripped a single back through the middle of the diamond for the victory.

• Five Flames had two hits apiece in the series opener. Hillier was one of the five with two hits and he drove in two runs in the contest. Center fielder Derek Orndorff also had two hits, was hit by a pitch and scored twice in the game for Liberty.

• In game two, Stetson jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after two innings and then held off the Flames for a 5-3 victory.

Hatters starting pitcher Jonathan Gonzalez and reliever Rasesh Pandya worked out of several Liberty scoring opportunities, as the Flames went 2-for-12 in the contest with runners in scoring position.

• Stetson center fielder Cameron Hill had two hits, including his second home run of the year in the contest. He drove in three of Stetson’s four runs in the 5-3 win.

• Liberty reliever Garrett Horn pitched five innings of scoreless relief. The freshman yielded two hits while striking out a career-high 10 and walking one batter, allowing the Flames to mount a comeback attempt.

• The Hatters defeated the Flames 7-1 in the series finale to take the ASUN series. Stetson pitcher Cole Stallings held Liberty scoreless over the first six innings, scattering three hits in the series finale. With Stallings holding the Flames in check, the Hatters struck for three two-out runs in the third and added two more runs in the fourth to build a 5-0 advantage.

• Hatters center fielder Cameron Hill led all hitters with three hits and two RBI in game three.
