Three Liberty student-athletes were voted to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams today, including redshirt senior Jovaine Atkinson, sophomore Calli (Parlier) Doan and junior Noel Palmer.
This marks Liberty's most CoSIDA Academic All-District® honorees since 2015, when four Flames and Lady Flames were honored. Atkinson (2018) and Palmer (2019) have both been named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® squads in previous years.
The trio will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. The 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams will be announced on June 25.
Atkinson recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in aeronautics, maintaining a 3.82 GPA. The redshirt senior from Spanish Town, Jamaica was voted the Flames' first-ever ASUN Men's Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
On the track, Atkinson won the men's 60 hurdles at five of his seven competitions in 2020, highlighted by his victory in the ASUN final. He set a meet record with his 7.76 clocking during the ASUN 60 hurdles prelims. His season-best time of 7.75 ranked No. 18 in the NCAA at season's end.
Previously known as Calli Parlier, Doan married former Liberty men's track & field/cross country standout Nick Doan earlier this month. A sophomore exercise science major with a 4.0 GPA, Doan was named an ASUN Winner for Life earlier this year.
After finishing as the ASUN women's cross country runner-up, Doan earned a trio of All-ASUN medals during the indoor track & field season. She was the ASUN champion in the women's mile (facility-record 4:51.26) and distance medley relay, while placing third in the 800.
Like Doan, Palmer also maintains a 4.0 GPA as a biology major. The native of Forest, Va., made her second ASUN All-Academic Team appearance this season.
Palmer placed fourth in the women's 5K and seventh in the 3K at the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships. She won two races on the season (Liberty Kickoff 5K and Doc Hale VT Elite Meet 3K), while dropping her 3K personal-best time to 9:50.37 at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
