    The Liberty Flames toppled the Lipscomb Bisons 4-1 in the opening game of a three-game ASUN series at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, Friday evening.

    Liberty pitchers Trevor Delaite, Landon Riley and Mason Meyer held the visiting Bisons in check throughout the contest. The three combined to allowed one run on seven hits, striking out seven. The trio did not walk a batter in the contest.

    Liberty moves to 19-8 overall and 6-1 in the ASUN. Lipscomb drops to 11-14 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

    Notable Numbers

    • Lipscomb had seven hits. Liberty had six. The Bisons committed the only error of the contest.
    • Liberty left 11 men on base. Lipscomb stranded five.
    • Delaite picks up the win. He gave up one run on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out four.
    • Riley worked out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh.
    • Meyer retired all six batters he faced over the final two innings to record his first save of the season. He struck out three batters.

    • Bisons second baseman Haddon Adams was the only player in the game with two hits.

    Turning Point
          With Liberty leading 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Lipscomb loaded the bases with one out. The Flames summoned Landon Riley to pitch to Bisons third baseman Brian Moore. Moore looped a fly ball into shallow center field which Liberty center fielder Jaylen Guy made a diving catch. Guy then popped up and threw a strike to home plate to get center fielder Maddux Houghton trying to score to end the inning and hold the Flames' one-run advantage.

          In the bottom of the inning, Liberty loaded the bases with two outs for McDyre. The third baseman lined a double into the left center fielder gap, scoring two runs to extend the Flames lead to 4-1.

    Beyond the Box Score

    • Liberty remains unbeaten at home this season, pushing its record to 11-0. The Flames have won 13 straight contests at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, dating back to last season. It is the fifth longest home winning streak in the country.
    • Betts extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the eighth inning. The streak is the longest hitting streak by a Liberty player in 2021. He also has reached base safely in 16 consecutive games, tying him with second baseman Will Wagner for the longest such streak this season.
    • Shortstop Cam Locklear has at least one hit in each of his last seven games. He singled and walked in the contest.
    • Meyer made his fourth relief appearance of the season and his ninth appearance overall.
