    Liberty stayed unbeaten in ASUN Conference play with an 18-11 win at Coastal Carolina, Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium.

    The Lady Flames’ win is their ninth overall, and they improve to 9-6 on the season and 3-0 in the ASUN. Liberty has officially clinched its spot in the 2022 ASUN Women’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held at Jacksonville May 5-7. Liberty is currently tied atop the ASUN standings with No. 21 Jacksonville (9-3, 3-0 ASUN).

    Coastal Carolina falls to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the ASUN with its second setback in the last four days.

    The Lady Flames had nine different goal scorers today, led by Brooke Bryan’s season-high four goals. Liberty’s top scorer, Mackenzie Lehman, scored three goals in the contest (seventh game of 3+ goals) and matched career highs in assists (3) and points (6). Liberty tallied a season-high 13 assists this afternoon.

    Turning Point
    Leading 12-10 through three quarters, Liberty pulled away by outscoring Coastal Carolina 6-1 over the final 15 minutes. Five different Lady Flames scored during the stanza, led by two goals from Lehman. The sophomore midfielder’s third goal of the contest, coming with 3:14 to go, gave Liberty a six-goal cushion, 17-11.

    The Lady Flames outshot the Chanticleers 12-4 in the final period, won six of the eight draws and held a 5-2 edge in ground balls.

    Key Stats & Notes
    • Liberty won 20 draw controls in the game, compared to 13 for Coastal Carolina. Mia Toscano (6), Lehman (5) and Lizzy Ferguson each won four or more draws. Toscano’s six draws were a season high, and she established a new career high with three assists.
    • The Lady Flames outshot the Chanticleers 32-30 and held edges in ground balls (21-17) and clear percentage (.882-.789) as well.
    • Liberty goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero led all players with five ground balls and made nine saves today as well to improve to 9-5 on the year.
    • Liberty is averaging 20.67 goals per game in ASUN play through three conference contests.
    • Liberty improves to 7-3 all-time versus Coastal Carolina and has won the last four meetings.

    • A battle of ASUN unbeatens is on the horizon, as Liberty (9-6, 3-0 ASUN) and Jacksonville (9-3, 3-0 ASUN) will meet next Saturday at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. Saturday is Senior Day for the Liberty lacrosse program. Game time is 1 p.m. Prior to the contest, the team will honor its senior class with a special ceremony.
    • Liberty and Jacksonville last met in the 2021 ASUN Championship title game, with the Dolphins prevailing 13-8 for their fourth straight ASUN crown. JU holds an 8-0 edge in the all-time series.
