Link to WNIT Announcement of 64-Team Field

The 27-4 Liberty women’s basketball team has been selected to compete in the 2022 Postseason WNIT, it was announced Sunday night.

Liberty is one of two ASUN Conference teams included among the 64-member field, joining Jacksonville State. The Lady Flames will make their third visit to the Postseason WNIT, following appearances in 2011 and 2016.

The tournament bracket will be unveiled on Monday, with 32 first-round games spread out between Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All Postseason WNIT contests will be hosted by one of the two teams participating in that matchup, leading up to the championship game on April 2.

The Lady Flames earned their tournament berth by virtue of one of the best seasons in program history. Liberty tied a program record with 26 regular-season victories and won a program-best 14 ASUN Conference games. The Lady Flames finished second in the ASUN East Division and reached the ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship semifinals.

Liberty, which has received Top 25 votes for much of the season, ranks among the nation’s leaders for rebound margin, scoring defense and field goal percentage defense. The Lady Flames picked up their first-ever home win over Virginia Tech and went 2-0 at both of their regular-season tournaments (Navy Classic and South Padre Island Classic).
