The Liberty women's tennis team stayed unbeaten at home in 2022 with a 4-0 victory over visiting Richmond, Sunday afternoon at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.

The Lady Flames move to 3-3 on the season and are a perfect 3-0 at home. Liberty is 8-0 all-time at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. Richmond slips to 0-3 on the year.

The Lady Flames improve to 5-3 in the all-time series with the Spiders. Liberty has won each of the last five meetings with Richmond.

How It Happened

• The Lady Flames took the doubles point with victories on courts one and three, respectively. Liberty's No. 3, No. 6 and No. 2 singles triumphs clinched the win.

• Liberty's No. 1 doubles unit on Sunday, Tiffany Nguyen and Maretha Burger, picked up a 6-2 win over the Spiders' Emily Dunbar and Sara Salemyr. The Lady Flames' No. 3 unit, Eloise Saraty and Elsa Kirch, secured the doubles point and a 1-0 home lead by virtue of a 6-4 decision over Helene Heiberg and Marta Buendia.

• The Spiders won the first completed doubles match, as Polina Shitikova and Carly Cohen bested Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Willa Rogers of the Lady Flames 6-1.

Marina Davtyan of Liberty provided the hosts a 2-0 lead early on in the singles session, as she led Shitikova 2-0 in the first set when Shitikova retired.

• After sitting out the doubles session, Liberty's Micaela Ode Mitre bested Marta Buenida 6-2, 6-1. Ode Mitre improved to 2-1 in spring singles contest and made it 3-0 Lady Flames her win.

• On court two, Alexandra Almborg of the Lady Flames topped Cohen of Richmond 6-3, 6-1 to finish the match and bring the final score to 4-0.

• Liberty won first sets on courts one, four and five before play was halted. The Lady Flames' Esther Lovato led 5-2 in the second set against Heiberg but saw her match go unfinished.

Next Up

• Liberty will host James Madison (2-3) and Longwood (0-3) next Saturday for a doubleheader at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. Match time between Liberty and JMU is set for 10 a.m. The Lady Flames and Longwood Lancers will square off at 2 p.m.

• Liberty is 6-6 all-time against JMU and 15-4 versus Longwood.
