    Liberty claimed nine of its 10 completed matches on day two of the Charlotte 49er Invite, Saturday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

    Play was halted due to darkness with two Liberty matches heading to third sets and four matches from today’s second session yet to start.

    Liberty went a perfect 7-0 in the first session against Rutgers, losing its only match of the day to Columbia during that session. Later in the day, the Lady Flames claimed a pair of matches against Long Island.

    Key Stats & Notes
    • Liberty’s Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre were the two Lady Flames to win twice on Saturday. Nguyen (No. 3 singles and No. 2 singles) bested Rutgers’ Chloe Brown 6-0, 7-6 (0) earlier in the day and Long Island’s Valentina Dancenco in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10).
    • Ode Mitre’s (No. 5 singles and No. 4 singles) first victory came via a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Minchae Kim of Rutgers. Her second win was a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Long Island’s Victoria Ercechtchenko.
    • Liberty’s Esther Lovato (No. 1 singles session one) opened the day by defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights’ Tess Fisher in two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (9). In her second match of the day, Lovato (No. 3 singles) lost her opening set 6-3 to South Carolina’s Chloe Narboni but won the second set 6-2 to force a third set prior to darkness halting play.
    • Lady Flames freshman Maria Juliana Parra Romero (No. 2 singles session one) improved to a perfect 7-0 in singles competition with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) result versus Jackeline Lopez of Rutgers. Parra Romero’s second singles match of the day saw her lose the opening set 6-2 to Misa Malkin of South Carolina. Parra Romero rebounded to take the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4). Parra Romero and Malkin will play a third set at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
    • Freshman Willa Rogers earned her first collegiate singles victory today. The Kingsport, Tenn., native took down the Scarlet Knights’ Kristiana Zahare in three sets by a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10) score.
    • Liberty’s Eloise Saraty and Maretha Burger also won in singles versus Rutgers. Saraty (No. 4 singles) topped Sydney Kaplan 6-4, 7-5, while Burger bested Daira Cardenas 6-1, 6-4.
    • Liberty played only doubles matches on day one, Friday, going 6-6 in those contests.
