    Liberty Plates 8 in the Second to Roll Past Austin Peay 12-1

    The Flames scored eight times in the second inning on their way to a 12-1 win in seven innings over the Austin Peay Governors in the opening game of their ASUN series on Friday at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The game ended in the seventh inning under the new NCAA 10-run rule.

    Liberty struck for all eight runs, the most by the Flames in an inning this season, with two outs in the second. The Flames sent 11 men to the plate in the home half of the inning, banging out six hits, five for extra bases to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Liberty used two triples, a home run and a double to score all their runs in the inning.

    Flames center fielder Jaylen Guy led all hitters in the game with three hits, including two doubles and scoring twice.

    Shortstop Jake Lazzaro added two hits, belting his second home run of the season in the second inning for the Flames. Right fielder Camden Troyer joined Lazzaro as one of the four Liberty hitters with two hits in the contest. He tripled, drove in three runs and plated a run in the game.

    Liberty evens their ASUN record at 2-2 on the season and moves to 10-11 overall. Austin Peay has its three-game winning streak snapped, falling to 2-2 in conference play and 9-13 overall.

    – Liberty and Austin Peay met for the first time in their program’s history today at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.

    – Three Hillier served as Liberty’s designated hitter for the first time in 2023. He walked to extend his reached base safely streak to 14 straight games.
    – For the second consecutive start, Horn did not allow a run over the first five innings of the contest. The left-hander, whose ERA is 1.65 on the year, has only allowed one run over his last 10 1/3 innings.
