Liberty leads the TYR ’85 Invite team standings by 60 points after day one of a three-day invitational, Friday at Liberty Natatorium.

Through today’s five events, Liberty has scored 783 points, with second-place Campbell having scored 723. Saint Francis (Pa.) is third with 476 points, while California (Pa.) rounds out the four-team standings with 283 points.

Notable

• The Lady Flames won four out of five events contested today, including both relays.

• Liberty’s 200 free relays took first (1:32.30), third (1:35.37) and fifth (1:37.70).

• Freshman Annalia Jansons earned her first collegiate victory, winning the 500 freestyle in 5:00.96.

• Senior Jessica Schellenboom posted her first 200 IM win of the season, claiming victory in 2:04.07.

• The Lady Flames earned five A Finals swims in both the 200 IM and 50 freestyle.

Historically Speaking

• Liberty’s 200 free relay of Schellenboom, Suggs, Shaw and Gardner is now ranked 10th on the program’s all-time top 10 list in the event.

• Abbie Shaw led off the 400 medley relay with a 52.94 100 backstroke. She is the third swimmer in program history to break 53 seconds in the 100 back. Coming into today, only 18 Division I women’s swimmers had broken 53 in the 100 backstroke.

Up Next

Day two of the TYR ’85 Invite begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with preliminary heats of the 100 fly and will also include the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 400 medley relay and 800 free relay.
