The Liberty Lady Flames women’s lacrosse team travels back to North Carolina Tuesday to face the No. 11 Duke Blue Devils. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Liberty (1-2) is coming off its first win of the season in its home opener in a 15-3 rout of the VCU Rams, this past Saturday afternoon. Duke (3-1) is coming off a tough test after falling 17-8 to No. 4 Boston College on the road.

The Lady Flames and Blue devils have met twice, as Liberty is still looking for its first win in the series. The two last met in 2022 with the Blue Devils taking the tight 8-7 victory in Lynchburg.

Liberty will be facing its third ranked opponent of the season, all on the road, after Liberty opened the spring against No. 1 North Carolina (Feb. 15) and No. 21 Richmond (Feb. 18).

Liberty midfielder Lizzy Ferguson has been one of the most productive players in the nation to begin the year. The senior is second in the nation in draw controls per game with 10.67 (32 total) per game while also netting six goals and seven points and leading the Lady Flames with four caused turnovers.

Ferguson will face her toughest test of the season in the draw circle, as she will square off with the Blue Devils’ Maddie Jenner, the national leader in draw controls per game at 11.00 through four games.Jenner is the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse all-time draw leader.

Lady Flames News and Notes

• The Lady Flames’ offense this season has been led by a trio who all tally six goals but are led in points by Cami Merkel with 10 points (four assists), Mackenzie Lehman with nine points (three assists) and Lizzy Ferguson at seven points (one assist).

• Liberty looks to steady a Duke attack led by Katie DeSimone, who has put up 14 goals, six assists and 20 points through four contests.

• In Saturday’s match against VCU, the Lady Flames defense restricted the Rams to a total of seven shots, including not allowing VCU to get a shot off for the entirety of the second and third quarters.

• The three goals allowed by Liberty was the lowest total surrendered since a 24-2 win over Delaware State on March 26, 2021.

• Duke is coming off a 16-4 record during the 2022 season that included a trip to the NCAA Tournament, with the Blue Devils falling in the second round to No. 2 Maryland 19-6. The Blue Devils went 9-0 from home over the course of the season including wins No. 14 Notre Dame and No. 2 Boston College.

• Liberty is looking for its first road win of the season after going 5-4 on the road last season.
