Parra Romero Advances to Singles Round of 16 at ITA Atlantic Super Regional

Liberty freshman Maria Juliana Parra Romero continued her success during her first fall campaign with a singles round of 32 win on day one of the ITA Atlantic Super Regional, Friday at the Virginia Tennis Complex at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
Parra Romero advanced to the round of 16 with her 6-0, 7-5 decision over Penn State graduate student Gabby O’Gorman. Parra Romero moves on to face No. 5 seed Tatsiana Sasnouskaya of Old Dominion, Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Sasnouskaya is the No. 77-ranked singles player in the country and will be the first nationally-ranked opponent Parra Romero will face in her collegiate career.

• Between Liberty’s two regional events this fall, the ITA Atlantic South Regional and ITA Atlantic Super Regional, Parra Romero is 4-0 in singles competition.
• Prior to Parra Romero, the last Liberty player to advance to the singles main draw round of 16 at an ITA Atlantic Regional was Kalani Soli in 2019.
• Liberty’s other competitor at the event is Esther Lovato. Lovato, the 120th-player in the nation, dropped her round of 32 match to Maryland’s Jojo Bach in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Lovato rebounded with a straight-sets victory (6-1, 6-0) versus ODU’s Alesya Yakubovich in a backdraw contest.
