The No. 2 seed FGCU Eagles defeated the No. 3 Liberty Flames 15-12 to complete play in Pool A at the ASUN Baseball Championship, Friday at Melching Field at Conrad Park.

ASUN Conference first-teamer, Alejandro Figueredo, hit two home runs, had five RBI and scored four times to lead FGCU.

Right fielder Camden Troyer led Liberty with three hits, two of them doubles, an RBI and scored three runs.

Third baseman John Simmons added two hits, including his second home run of the ASUN Baseball Championship and drove in four runs.

Flames senior Gray Betts had two hits. One of the hits was his fourth home run of the season, while designated hitter Todd Hudson had two hits and knocked in three.

Both teams advance to tomorrow’s semifinals. Liberty completes pool play with a 1-2 record in pool play at the ASUN Championship and falls to 27-30 on the season. FGCU wins Pool A with a 3-0 record in pool play and moves to 41-17 overall on the year.

Notable Numbers

- Liberty outhit FGCU, 15-14. The Eagles committed four errors.

- Each team left nine men on base.

- The two teams combined to hit six home runs in the contest (Liberty – 2, FGCU – 4).

- Catcher Three Hillier also had two hits in the contest for the Flames.

- Troyer also walked to reach base four times in five plate appearances in the game.

- Liberty reliever Tyler Germanowski takes the loss. He gave up six runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked two.

- Reliever Dawson Place records the win for the Eagles. He gave up one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

- Horton collects his team-leading fifth three-hit game and 16th multi-hit contest of the year.

- Center fielder Kane Kepley was hit by a pitch in the game and has now reached base safely in 17 consecutive contests.

- Hudson ties his career-high for RBI in a game with three. The freshman has knocked in three runs in a contest three times this season.

Next Up

   With pool play complete, Liberty advances to tomorrow’s single-elimination semifinals. The No. 3 seed Flames will meet the No. 1 seed Lipscomb Bisons in semifinal game 2 at Melching Field at Conrad Park. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
