Liberty Downs East Carolina 4-2 in Home Opener
The Liberty Lady Flames downed the East Carolina Pirates by a score of 4-2 on Saturday at the Liberty Tennis Complex. The match was the home opener for Liberty.
Liberty improves to 2-1 on the year, while ECU falls to 1-2.
The match against East Carolina was the first of a doubleheader for Liberty. The Flames are scheduled to play Longwood later today at 5 p.m.

• Liberty lost the doubles point after dropping two out of two matches. Liberty’s No. 3 pairing of Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre won their match moments after the Lady Flames lost their second match. Nguyen and Ode Mitre topped Laura Becker and Joan Madi 6-2.
• Liberty’s first point of the match came from No. 1 Maria Juliana Parra Romero, defeating the Pirates’ Isabella Ortiz 6-3. 6-0. Parra Romero improved to 3-0 in spring singles matches with the triumph.
• Liberty received crucial points from No. 4 Tiffany Nguyen facing East Carolina’s Alisha Hussain, winning 6-4, 6-3. The Lady Flames’ No. 6 Maretha Burger won her match against Laura Becker 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. That victory gave Liberty a 3-2 lead at the time.
• The clinching point of the match came from Liberty’s No. 2 Mariana Davtyan, who fought to win in three sets against East Carolina’s Ines Bachir El Bouhali. The final score of the match was 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
