The Liberty Lady Flames lacrosse team will host Delaware State in its ASUN opener, Saturday afternoon. First draw is slated for 1 p.m. at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.

Liberty (6-5) will look to get back in the win column after a narrow 8-7 loss to No. 7-ranked Duke, Tuesday at home. The Lady Flames led for the majority of the game against the Blue Devils and held the nation’s top offense (19.50 goals per game) nearly 12 goals below its season average.

Delaware State is 1-8 this season and has lost its last two games. The Hornets fell 20-9 against Wofford, last Saturday.

Lady Flames News and Notes

• Liberty is 2-0 all-time against Delaware State. The Lady Flames scored a program-record 24 goals against the Hornets in a 24-2 win last season (March 26, 2021).

• Liberty was picked to finish second in the ASUN Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll for a third straight year.

• Liberty is 2-0 in ASUN openers. Both of those victories have come versus Kennesaw State (2019 and 2021). The Flames are 4-0 all-time in ASUN home games.

• Lady Flames senior midfielder Mia Toscano was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for the third time in her career. Toscano collected five ground balls and had two caused turnovers in last Saturday’s 11-10 triumph over High Point. The Venetia, Pa. native also scored a goal and had two draw controls in that contest. Toscano is in the top 50 nationally in ground balls per game (No. 18, 2.91) and caused turnovers per game (No. 42, 1.55).

• Liberty is ranked No. 49 in the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse RPI listing. Delaware State is 118th in the RPI.

• The Lady Flames are third in the nation in caused turnovers per game (12.91) and fourth in ground balls per game (20.64). Defender Alexa Evernham leads the squad in caused turnovers per game (1.82), ranking 22nd nationally in the category.

• This will be the third game of four straight home contests for the Lady Flames. Liberty will face Stetson (3-7, 0-0 ASUN) in conference play on April 9 to wrap up the homestand.
