With the season opener one week away, first-year Liberty assistant cross country coaches Rachel Johnson and Isaac Wendland took some time to chat with Alan York.
Johnson, who just joined the coaching staff earlier this month, comes to Lynchburg from Flagstaff, Ariz. She was an All-American distance runner at Baylor and is currently sponsored by ASICs.
Former Flames standout Wendland returned to his alma mater in January. He is beginning his first season coaching the Liberty men's cross country runners this fall.
The 2019 season will begin with the Liberty Challenge, Aug. 30 at the Liberty Cross Country Course, adjacent to the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. The women's 4K is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the men's 4K to follow at 5:30. The Flames will compete against Virginia, VMI and Lynchburg during the low-key season opener.
