    Apr 10, 2021 | Lynchburg Va | Lacrosse

    Top Plays

Liberty freshman Olivia Glaze scored the game-winning goal with 1:23 to play, lifting the Lady Flames to a thrilling 14-13 triumph over Coastal Carolina on Saturday at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.

In addition to Glaze's heroics, Liberty goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero preserved the victory by saving a Coastal Carolina free-position shot with three seconds remaining to prevent the game from going into overtime.

The back-and-forth game between the former Big South and ASUN rivals saw Coastal Carolina take an 8-4 lead into the half and Liberty answer with a 7-1 run early in the second half to set the stage for a dramatic ending.

Liberty moves above .500 (6-5) with the win. Coastal Carolina drops to 7-6 and has lost back-to-back games.

Thoughts From Head Coach Kelly Nangle
"We talked to the girls before the game about responding to adversity and how we think this team has consistently responded throughout the season. We did just that today in a big way. We didn't play very well in the first half, but we came out in the second half and executed our game plan. I couldn't be prouder of our girls for digging in and finding a way. This team is special, and we are just getting started."

With 1:27 left, Liberty's Jordan Baerga earned a free-position opportunity. Baerga's ensuing shot was blocked, but Glaze was there to collect the ground ball and fire a shot into the right side of the goal for a 14-13 Lady Flames lead with 1:23 remaining. Glaze's goal was her seventh of the year.

Coastal Carolina's Anya McSorley won the next draw control, but Liberty's defense held firm for over a minute until the Chanticleers' Samantha Courtemanche drew a foul with 5.3 seconds on the clock. Courtemanche's low free-position shot was saved by Soriero, sealing the win for Liberty.
