Liberty Adds 3 Transfers to Volleyball Roster

8/13/2022 1:49:54 PM | Women's Volleyball

The Liberty volleyball team has announced the addition of three transfers. Lipscomb transfers Kamryn Bacus and Delaney Dilfer, along with Texas A&M transfer Erica Lowery have all transferred to Liberty and are eligible immediately.

These three join seven freshmen to comprise an impressive cast of 10 newcomers to the Liberty volleyball roster. With the addition of Bacus and Dilfer, Liberty now has four of the seven members of the 2021 ASUN All-Freshman Team on its roster (also Lydia Burts and Trinity Watts).

“We are really excited about all three of our transfers,” Head Coach Trevor Johnson said. “They all bring a great wealth of experience. They have already raised the level of our gym. I am really excited to see what God has in store for them and our team this season.”

Kamryn Bacus (OH, Jr., Edmond, Okla./Edmond North HS (Lipscomb))

Kamryn Bacus joins Liberty’s roster after spending two seasons as a starting outside hitter at Lipscomb. A 2021 ASUN All-Freshman Team member, Bacus was named ASUN Freshman of the Week twice during the spring of 2021. She and current Liberty teammate Delaney Dilfer helped the Bisons capture the Spring 2021 ASUN Volleyball Championship. Bacus led Lipscomb with 3.08 kills per set as a sophomore, and has totaled 415 career kills in 137 sets played over her first two seasons. A standout in high school as well, Bacus was named the 2019 Gatorade Oklahoma Volleyball State Player of the Year.

“Kamryn Bacus, we are really excited about her,” Johnson said. “She comes from a really good program. We like her athleticism; she has a really good arm for an outside, and we are excited to see what she can do here for us at Liberty playing six rotations.”

Delaney Dilfer (S, Jr., Austin, Texas/Vandegrift HS (Lipscomb))

Delaney Dilfer comes to Liberty from Lipscomb, where she served as the Bisons’ starting setter from day one. Dilfer was named the AVCA All-South Region Freshman of the Year and ASUN Freshman of the Year in Spring 2021. During her freshman season, she was a member of the ASUN All-Conference second team and ASUN All-Tournament team. Dilfer is a two-time ASUN Freshman of the Week and was named ASUN Player of the Week on Oct. 11, 2021. She has averaged over 10 assists per set during each of her first two seasons of college volleyball. Last year, she was voted by the coaches as ASUN Preseason Setter of the Year.

“Delaney Dilfer is a very experienced setter," Johnson said. "She comes from a pedigree of sisters who have all set at the Division I level. She is super competitive, with a very high volleyball IQ. Delaney understands the game at a high level. She gets the most out of her teammate, and just trains really, really hard. I love her grittiness and her eagerness to get better and better every day.”

Erica Lowery (DS/L, Jr., Cypress, Texas/Langham Creek HS (Texas A&M))

Erica Lowery spent her first two seasons at Texas A&M under head coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn. Serving as a defensive specialist, Lowery appeared in 25 sets over two seasons with the Aggies, recording 36 total digs (1.44 digs per set). She collected a career-high 13 digs against Florida on March 25, 2021. Lowery has been a member of both the AD Academic Honor Roll and SEC Academic Honor Roll. Lowery and Dilfer both transferred to Liberty prior to the spring 2022 semester and competed in spring matches for the Lady Flames. During the spring, Lowery received a majority of playing time at libero.

“I recruited Erica when I was at Texas A&M. She just reads the game very well. She puts herself in the right spot early, before the hitter even makes contact, so I think that helps her read and react a lot quicker. Erica is very skilled passer and defender. She is also super competitive and is trying to win every drill, trying to get the most of her teammates as well.”
