4/21/2021 12:00:00 AM | Women's Lacrosse

Mackenzie Lehman and Mia Toscano of the Liberty lacrosse team collected ASUN Conference Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards today.

Lehman is the first freshman in program history to be named ASUN Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Toscano collects her second ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor. She previously received the award on March 3, 2020. Toscano was also named ASUN Player of the Week earlier this spring, winning the award on Feb. 24.

This is the second straight week in which Liberty has swept the ASUN's weekly honors. The Lady Flames have received eight weekly honors in 2021, including four player of the week recipients and four defensive player of the week honorees. Liberty has swept the conference awards four times this spring.

Lehman, a midfielder from McMurray, Pa., tallied three goals, three assists, six points, 12 draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in a pair of Liberty victories last week over Kennesaw State (Friday) and High Point (Sunday). In the Lady Flames' 17-6 win over KSU in their ASUN opener, Lehman scored two goals and won a career-best eight draw controls. The midfielder scored one of her goals on a free-position shot and also had two caused turnovers in the game.

In Sunday's 15-13 win at High Point, Lehman matched a career high with four points, as she had one goal and a career-high three assists. She also shared the team lead with four draw controls and scooped up three ground balls. In 14 games this season (eight starts), Lehman ranks second on the squad with 33 draw controls and has 11 goals, eight assists and 19 points.

Toscano, a midfielder from Venetia, Pa., totaled seven ground balls and three caused turnovers in Liberty's two victories, last week. The junior also had four goals, one assist, five points and three draw controls. Toscano corralled six ground balls and generated two caused turnovers at High Point. Toscano also had two goals and three draw controls in the contest.  The Lady Flames bested the Panthers 15-13, notching their first win over High Point in the last six years.

Toscano recorded two goals, one assists, three points, one ground ball and one caused turnover against Kennesaw State. In 14 games this season (all starts), she ranks second on the team with 27 ground balls and third with 17 caused turnovers. Toscano also has a team-high 40 draw controls to go with 18 goals (second on the team), seven assists and 25 points.
