Langin, Doan, Coleman Earn ASUN Weekly Awards

3/29/2023 2:40:12 PM | Track and Field

Liberty collected a trio of ASUN Conference weekly honors on Wednesday, as Taylen Langin (Women’s Field Athlete of the Week), Calli Doan (Women’s Track Athlete of the Week) and Desmond Coleman (Men’s Freshman of the Week) were recognized.

A senior from Meridian, Idaho, Langin is now a two-time ASUN Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her career. She won the women's pole vault at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational with a season-best and facility-record 13-3.75 clearance. That ranks No. 14 nationally this season and is the best mark in the ASUN Conference by a foot.

Doan, a redshirt junior from Apex, N.C., collects her third career ASUN Women’s Track Athlete of the Week accolade. Running her first outdoor track race since 2021, Doan clocked a personal-best 4:17.10 to place 10th in the Raleigh Relays women's 1,500. That effort ranks No. 1 in the ASUN and No. 11 nationally this season. Doan joins Coach Heather (Sagan) Zealand as the only Lady Flames ever to post a sub-4:20 1,500.

A Charlotte, N.C., native, Coleman makes it back-to-back ASUN Men’s Freshman of the Week honors after placing as the runner-up in the men's discus (personal-best 193-7) and men's shot put (52-2.75) at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational. Coleman finished just one centimeter behind All-American teammate Kevin Nedrick in the discus with a mark that ranks No. 2 in ASUN Conference history, No. 3 all-time at Liberty and sits No. 10 nationally this season (No. 1 among freshmen).

Langin and Coleman are slated to compete at the Virginia Quadrangular, Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va., while Doan will race at the Stanford Invitational, Friday night in Stanford, Calif. Liberty will also send a group of athletes to High Point, N.C., Friday and Saturday, for the VertKlasse Meeting.
