Liberty will play a pair of non-conference home games this week, hosting the Winthrop Eagles and Furman Paladins.

First draw between the Lady Flames (2-5) and Eagles (3-3) is scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday afternoon. Liberty and Furman (3-3) will square off at noon on Saturday afternoon. Both games will be played at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.

The Lady Flames have only hosted two home games so far this season. Liberty topped VCU 15-3 in its home opener on Feb. 25 and fell 13-5 to No. 8 James Madison, March 8.

Liberty is 4-6 all-time against former Big South rival Winthrop, but the Lady Flames have won both meetings since joining the ASUN. The Lady Flames last faced the Eagles on Feb. 26, 2020, with Liberty prevailing 17-9 at home.

Liberty has won two of three all-time meetings with Furman. The Lady Flames last saw the Paladins in 2021, taking a 10-8 road loss.

Liberty is coming off a 1-1 road trip last week, besting Pitt 13-7 on March 14 and falling to No. 12 Notre Dame 19-8.

Lady Flames News and Notes

• One of Liberty’s strengths this season is generating caused turnovers. The Lady Flames are currently 15th in the nation and first in the ASUN with 10.29 caused turnovers per game. Liberty is led by Lizzy Ferguson and Grace Loughery with 10 each while having 11 total players with three or more caused turnovers this season.

• Liberty senior Ferguson also leads the team in draw controls this season (51). The senior also ranks 11th in the nation and second in the conference at 7.29 draw controls per game. The program record for draw controls in a season is 79, held by Carly White (2019) and Hope Flack (2019).

• Two Lady Flames are tied for the team lead with 13 goals, shared by Mackenzie Lehman and Ferguson. Lehman has 99 career points (71 g, 28 a), and her next point will make her the 13th player in program history to reach 100 points.

• A transfer from Navy, Loughery has been a key member of the Lady Flames this spring. The senior leads the team with 16 ground balls along with the previously mentioned 10 caused turnovers.

• Winthrop is coming off a 10-9 triple overtime victory over Butler this past Sunday.

• Furman will be coming to Lynchburg after topping another ASUN member, Kennesaw State, by an 8-7 score, last Friday.

• Both teams that Liberty will be matched up with have played Kennesaw State this season. Winthrop came out on top over KSU, 16-13, in its season opener.
