Lady Flames Headed to Vanderbilt for WNIT 2nd Round, Monday
After picking up its first-ever Postseason WNIT victory on Wednesday, Liberty will take to the road for the second round. The Lady Flames will play at Vanderbilt Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern inside Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn.
The 28-4 Lady Flames posted a 50-44 first-round victory over former Big South foe Campbell, Wednesday at Liberty Arena, tying the program record for most victories in a season. Vanderbilt (15-18) advanced with a 73-47 home triumph over Murray State on Thursday.
Liberty will be seeking its first-ever victory over the Commodores. Vanderbilt is 2-0 versus the Lady Flames, including a 54-44 triumph in the 2003 NCAA Tournament first round in Norfolk, Va., and a 67-50 regular-season victory on Dec. 22, 2008 in Nashville.
The Lady Flames are 1-2 all-time at Memorial Gymnasium. In addition to its regular-season setback in 2008, Liberty split its pair of games at the 2011 Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 25-26, 2011). The Lady Flames lost to Oklahoma 76-45 and beat Lipscomb 70-27 at that event.
Liberty will match up against an SEC opponent for the first time since its 100-60 loss at Tennessee in the 2018 NCAA Tournament first round. The Lady Flames are 1-18 all-time against the SEC, having lost 17 matchups in a row since an 80-76 victory at Kentucky on Dec. 12, 1998.
The winner of Monday’s Liberty at Vanderbilt matchup will move on to the third round against the victor of the Wake Forest vs. Middle Tennessee second-round clash.
