Spring Break for Liberty started with a below freezing, snowy road game, as they took down the Pittsburgh Panthers 13-7 at Highmark Stadium.

The Lady Flames improve to 2-4 on the year following their first road win of the season. The Panthers fall to 3-5 and have lost three straight. Liberty and Pitt traded goals through the first three quarters before Liberty pulled away with five unanswered fourth quarter goals.

Liberty got started quickly with Cami Merkel (three goals) grabbing a hat trick in the first 17:45 of the game. Jordan Shieve (four goals) added her own hat trick later in the game with three straight goals. Mackenzie Lehman (four goals) also added a hat trick in the game.

Liberty dominated possession throughout, outdrawing the Panthers 20-4 and going a perfect 15-of-15 on clearing attempts. Lizzy Ferguson led Liberty by posting 11 draw controls. The Lady Flames outshot the Panthers 33-17 in the game.

Turning Point

The two teams were tied at 7-7 with 2:30 remaining in the third before Liberty scored six straight goals which ended up the difference in the game.

First Half Summary

• Neither team established a lead in the first half as neither team led by more than one. Merkel (3 g, 3 a) scored three of Liberty's first four goals of the game as Mackenzie Lehman (four goals) added two in the half.

• Pitt scored on all but one of their six shots on goal in the half.

Second Half Summary

• Liberty took a one-goal lead into the third quarter, 8-7, as Sheive added two of her four goals to bookend the quarter for the Lady Flames.

• Liberty took control of the game in the fourth frame by outshooting the Panthers 12-3. Liberty forced the action by getting eight key free position attempts in the quarter, converting on two of them.

Key Stats & Notes

• Liberty sophomore attacker Celena Kerr scored her first Lady Flames goal with 16 seconds remaining in the game. Kerr appeared in two games last season, and Tuesday was her second appearance this season.

Mackenzie Lehman now leads the Lady Flames in goals with 12 after her four on Tuesday.

Lizzy Ferguson won a game-high 11 draws. She leads the squad with 49 draw controls through six games.

• Liberty goalkeeper Taylor Gallarello came on in relief of Mara Tellers and earned her first career win in cage. The sophomore had three saves. Liberty had three players with three caused turnovers each in Lehman, Ferguson and Grace Loughery.

• The Lady Flames had five players with more than four shots throughout the match. Lehman led the Lady Flames with seven shots, all of them on goal.

• Liberty continues its Spring Break trip at No. 12 Notre Dame (4-2) on Sunday. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.

• Liberty seeks its first win against the Fighting Irish having lost their four matches against the school. The two last met in 2021, with No. 4 Notre Dame getting a 19-5 home win.

• Notre Dame will be the fifth ranked team the Lady Flames have faced this season.
