The Kennesaw State Owls salvaged one game of their three-game series with the Liberty, slipping past the Flames 9-8 in game two of an ASUN doubleheader, Friday evening at Stillwell Stadium.

After winning 9-2 on Thursday, the Flames routed the Owls 18-3 in game one of the doubleheader to take the series.

Host Kennesaw State used a five-run sixth to erase a 5-1 Liberty lead in the sixth, only to see Liberty come back and tie the game in the top of the ninth at 8-8. The Owls then plated a run in the bottom of the ninth for the victory.

Liberty first baseman Logan Mathieu had two hits and lined a single down the left line to tie the game in the top of the ninth. Catcher Gray Betts, who homered in the first game, led off the second game with his third home run of the season. Brady Gulakowski hit his sixth home run as a pinch hitter in the sixth.

Liberty drops to 22-12 overall and 9-6 in ASUN play. Kennesaw State moves to 22-12 overall and 11-4 in the ASUN standings.

Turning Point

With Liberty leading 5-1 in the sixth, Kennesaw State rallied, plating five runs. After inching closer on an RBI single by right fielder Brayden Eidson and a double by center fielder Josh Hatcher, first baseman Donovan Hatcher hit a three-run home run to give the Owls a 6-5 advantage.
