11/16/2022 9:16:09 AM | Women's Basketball

A talented post player from Iceland, Elisabeth Aegisdottir has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2023-24 academic year.

Aegisdottir is one of two members of the Iceland senior national team who are part of the Lady Flames’ incoming freshman class, along with guard Emma Hjordisardottir.

Elisabeth Aegisdottir (F, 6-2, Grindavik, Iceland)

A 2022 graduate of Fjolbrautarskoli Suournesja high school, Aegisdottir excelled at the 2022 U20 European Championship, scoring 9.6 ppg and leading all players in the tournament with 11.1 rpg.

Aegisdottir was named to the all-star team at the 2021 U18 Nordic Cup, tallying 18 points, six rebounds and five steals against Denmark.

Playing for the Haukar club team, Aegisdottir was named rookie of the year in Iceland’s top league in 2020-21 and helped her team claim the cup championship.

What They’re Saying about Elisabeth Aegisdottir

“We are excited to have Elisabeth join the Liberty family as we move into the challenges of Conference USA. Elisabeth is an elite athlete who is one of the brightest young shining stars in Icelandic women's basketball. She is a proven standout player in EuroCup competition. She is a very good passer and also a very consistent scorer from the three-point line, mid-range and finishing at the basket. Elisabeth is a tremendous rebounder and excels around the hoop. She is an amazingly active player who will certainly impact the game on both ends of the court. She runs the floor extremely well and has the ability to defend everyone on the court. Elisabeth has received exceptional coaching and understands the game well.”

Carey Green, Liberty Women’s Basketball Head Coach

“First of all, I would like to congratulate both Elisabeth and Emma for choosing Liberty University to study and play basketball for the next four years. Despite their young age, they both play a key role on our team, but we play in the top league in Iceland and have been one of the most successful teams in the last 20 years. They are undoubtedly the most promising players in the country and have the right mentality to reach as far as they want. They have played with Iceland's junior national teams in recent years and have been key players there, and Elisabeth has also been part of Iceland's senior national team. We will definitely miss them, but at the same time we are proud that our players are wanted by a good school and team like the Liberty Flames, where they will develop as players for the next few years.”

Bjarni Magnusson, Haukar Basketball Head Coach
