Liberty sophomore catcher Caroline Hudson has been voted a third-team selection on the 2022 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division I All-Southeast Region Softball Team.

A total of 381 players from 152 different softball programs nationally have been selected to the 2022 NFCA Division I All-Region teams. The all-region teams were voted upon by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all honorees are now eligible to be chosen for one of the three 2022 NFCA Division I All-America teams. The NFCA All-America squads will be announced on June 1.

A native of Paris, Tenn., Hudson is the 16th Liberty NFCA All-Region all-time and ninth under ninth-year head coach Dot Richardson. The Lady Flames have been represented on the NFCA All-Region team every year since 2017.

After being in the NFCA’s Southeast Region until 2010, the Lady Flames were in the Mid-Atlantic Region for All-Region Awards from 2011-19. This is Liberty’s second year back in the Southeast Region, which features teams from the ACC, ASUN, Big South, MEAC and SEC.

Hudson finished first in the ASUN with 10 home runs (tied) and 32 RBI in 24 conference games, batting .367 with an .835 slugging percentage (second in ASUN) during that span. Overall, she is tied for third in the ASUN with 51 RBI and ranked third with 16 home runs. A standout on defense as well, she leads the ASUN with 18 runners caught stealing (tied for third nationally), catching runners at a .409 clip. Her 10 ASUN homers and 32 ASUN RBI shattered program single-season records in conference play.

The Lady Flames (43-16) are currently in Durham, N.C., preparing for tomorrow’s NCAA Durham Regional opener against No. 19 Georgia. That game will air live on ESPNU at noon tomorrow. The Lady Flames are making their fifth straight postseason appearance Liberty earned its first two NCAA Regional finals appearances in 2018 and 2021.
