Tickets for Northern Lights/Southern Nights Tournament
The Liberty softball team, under the direction on ninth-year Head Coach Dot Richardson, has announced a challenging 2022 season schedule. This year’s schedule features numerous games against Top 25 teams, and will give Lynchburg-area fans many exciting games to watch at Liberty Softball Stadium.
During the 2022 season, Liberty will face 2021 Women’s College World Series competitor James Madison. The Lady Flames will also take on NCAA Super Regional participants Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Virginia Tech along with NCAA Regional teams Clemson, Duke, Eastern Kentucky, George Washington, Kennesaw State, Notre Dame, Northwestern, South Alabama, Tennessee and UCF.
Among Liberty’s 2022 opponents, James Madison (No. 4), Arkansas (No. 11), Missouri (No. 13), Virginia Tech (No. 14), Kentucky (No. 16), Clemson (No. 18), Duke (No. 20) and Tennessee (No. 23) all appeared in the final 2021 NFCA National poll. Liberty faces 14 teams that finished the 2021 season in the top 50 in RPI, including nine of the top 25 and five of the top 16.
Liberty will play 27 home games at the 1,000-seat Liberty Softball Stadium. For the fifth year in a row, the Lady Flames will host two in-season tournaments, the Liberty Softball Classic (Feb. 25-Feb. 27) and Liberty Softball Invitational (March 4-6). Liberty will also welcome Power 5 opponents Virginia (March 1), Arkansas (March 10), North Carolina (March 16), Virginia Tech (April 12), Duke (April 20) and Tennessee (April 27) to Liberty Softball Stadium for midweek nonconference games. The Liberty Softball Invitational will feature a strong field of George Washington, James Madison, Lehigh, Notre Dame and Rutgers.
The Lady Flames will host four conference series, beginning with North Alabama, March 26-27. Liberty will also host Kennesaw State (April 9-10), Jacksonville (April 23-24) and Stetson (May 6-7). Liberty’s ASUN away series include Eastern Kentucky (March 19-20), Bellarmine (April 1-2), FGCU (April 15-16) and North Florida (April 30-May 1).
The Lady Flames will open the season in Florida for the sixth time in the last seven years, playing their first 10 games of the years in the Sunshine State. Liberty will play in the Northern Lights, Southern Nights Tournament in Leesburg, Fla., from Feb. 11-13, taking on Kentucky, Northwestern, UConn and Missouri. Tickets for that tournament are on sale now. Following a midweek game at UCF, the Lady Flames will play in THE Spring Games, Feb. 18-20.
Following an 11-game homestand, Liberty will play in a tournament hosted by Clemson, March 12-13.
Liberty’s nonconference away schedule includes UCF (Feb. 15), Virginia (March 22), Louisville (March 30) and Virginia Tech (May 3).
For the first time in program history, Liberty will host a conference tournament in softball. The Lady Flames will host the 2022 ASUN Softball Championship, May 11-14. The winner of the ASUN Softball Championship will earn the conference’s automatic qualifying bid into the 2022 NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
