Hess Named ASUN WBB Freshman of Week
Liberty guard Emma Hess has been named ASUN Conference Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday. It is the first weekly honor of her collegiate career.
A native of Beavercreek, Ohio, Hess was productive off the bench during Liberty’s wins over Hampton (68-48) and High Point (70-47) last week. She totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes of playing time. Hess tied for the team lead in three-pointers made for the week, going 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Hess scored eight points and matched a season high with five rebounds at Hampton on Wednesday. The freshman then contributed seven points and three boards to Saturday’s victory over High Point at Liberty Arena.
For the season, Hess is the Lady Flames’ second-leading bench scorer at 4.9 ppg. She ranks second on the team with eight three-pointers, shooting 38.1 percent from downtown.
Hess and the Lady Flames are off to their best start to a season since 2007-08 at 7-1. Liberty will play host to 7-2 Virginia Tech Tuesday at 7 p.m., as the Hokies become the first ACC basketball team to visit Liberty Arena.
