Herndon Named CCSA Diver of the Week Image

Herndon Named CCSA Diver of the Week

1/17/2023 4:41:14 PM | Women's Swimming & Diving

After posting an NCAA Zone qualifying score last weekend, Liberty freshman Mary Herndon has been named Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Women’s Diver of the Week.

Herndon receives her first career CCSA Diver of the Week honor. Her teammate Maddie Freece has been named Diver of the Week twice this season.

In program history, Liberty has had nine different divers earn a combined 20 CCSA Diver of the Week awards.

Hailing from Lugoff, S.C., Herndon enjoyed her best meet as a collegiate diver so far, winning three-meter diving with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 309.75 in Friday’s meet against VMI. She is the first Lady Flame to qualify for Zones on three-meter this season, and her 309.75 places her second on Liberty’s all-time top 10 performers list in the event. Herndon improved by more than 30 points from her previous collegiate best three-meter score of 273.75 from the West Virginia Invite in November. On Friday, she outscored her closest competitor by 65.1 points. Later in the meet, she scored a season-best 250.28 on one-meter, placing second.

The Lady Flames will host Campbell Friday and Saturday to wrap up their regular season schedule. Liberty will honor its six seniors – Hannah Huenefeld, Maggie Huenefeld, Alexis Plogger, Jessica Schellenboom, Rachel Strickland and Eva Suggs – with a senior day ceremony on Saturday.
