Hamlett and Dykema Receive BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
Liberty field hockey’s Lizzie Hamlett and Bethany Dykema both garnered inclusion on this week’s BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
This is Dykema’s second appearance on the honor roll this season and third all-time. Meanwhile, Hamlett has been named to the listing for the first time this year and second time in her career.
Hamlett tallied two goals, one assists, five points, seven shots (team high), five shots on goal (team high) in a pair of games last weekend. The senior midfielder got the scoring started for Liberty in its 10-0 triumph over Georgetown last Friday, scoring back-to-back goals at the 15:59 and 25:04 marks of the first half.
Hamlett’s first goal came on a tip on a penalty corner, while her second marker (fifth of season) was on a rebound. The Fredericksburg, Va. native also assisted on a Jodie Conolly goal early in the third quarter which put the Lady Flames up 5-0. Through seven games of the 2022 campaign, Hamlett shares the team lead with five goals and ranks third on the squad in points (13) and tied for third in assists (3).
Dykema, a defender from Newport News, Va., recorded two goals, an assist and five points in the win over the Georgetown Hoyas. The senior scored the third and fourth goals of the game for the Lady Flames, both late in the second quarter, in staking the hosts to a 4-0 halftime edge.
Dykema and the Liberty defense recorded their fourth shutout of the season in the BIG EAST-opening over the Hoyas. All four of the Lady Flames’ wins this year have been in shutout fashion. In seven games in 2022, Dykema is tied for the team lead with five goals and ranks second in assists (4) and second in points (14).
Hamlett, Dykema and No. 16 Liberty (4-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) will face No. 9 Connecticut (6-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) in conference play, Friday. Match time is 2 p.m. from the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn.
