ASUN Release

Liberty men's tennis senior Eddie Gutierrez has been named to the 2018-19 ASUN Conference Spring Winners for Life Team.

The team consists of one student-athlete from each of the nine ASUN institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface.

Gutierrez, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in business administration: international business and held a 3.39 cumulative GPA. During his senior season, he served as a team captain and won 16 total singles matches and eight doubles bouts.

Gutierrez's shining moment came on his Senior Day at the Cook Tennis Center, April 6 against North Florida. With the match locked in a 3-3 tie, he delivered a dramatic three-set victory over UNF's Jorge Nunez to lift the Flames to a 4-3 win and a 5-0 mark in ASUN Conference play. In the same match, Gutierrez delivered a point which was featured as the No. 3 play on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays listing.

Gutierrez has been accepted into the Liberty University School of Law and will further his academic studies beginning this fall.

He is one of three Liberty student-athletes recognized as a Winner for Life by the ASUN during the 2018-19 academic year. Liberty women's soccer player Cora Duininck was named to the ASUN Conference Fall Winners for Life Team, while Keenan Gumbs of the Flames men's basketball team earned inclusion on the ASUN Conference Winter Winners for Life Team.
