5/7/2012 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf

Grandover Resort - Greensboro, N.C.

2012 NCAA Men's Golf Regional Field Listing

Liberty will remain much closer to home for this go around at the NCAA Men's Golf Regionals, as the Flames learned on Monday night they are headed to Greensboro, N.C., as one of 14 teams at the Greensboro Regional.

The Flames, winners of back-to-back Big South titles, are making their fourth overall NCAA Men's Golf Regional appearance and second in a row. Last year, Liberty was sent west to the Arizona Regional, where the Flames finished 10th out of 14 teams at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

Liberty will be the No. 6 seed at the Greensboro Regional, which will be contested at the Grandover Resort East Course in Greensboro, N.C. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played May 17-19, on the 7,100-yard trek.

The Flames are one of four conference champions and automatic bid qualifiers at the Greensboro Regional. Liberty is joined by No. 10 seed Lamar, winners of the Southland Conference, No. 13 seed George Washington (Atlantic 10) and Mount St. Mary's (Northeast).

No. 3/4 Auburn (Golfweek/Golfstat) is the No. 1 seed at the Greensboro Regional, followed by No. 2 seed UNLV, No. 3 seed Florida, No. 4 seed Duke and No. 5 seed Indiana.

Auburn was the runner-up at this year's SEC Championships and is led by junior All-America golfer Blayne Barber, who leads the SEC with a 70.66 stroke average.

Barber is the top ranked individual golfer in the field at No. 8 in the latest Golfweek rankings, followed by Duke's Julian Suri at No. 17 and Liberty's Robert Karlsson at No. 29.

Karlsson will be Liberty's most seasoned NCAA Regional competitor, with this being the senior's fourth consecutive NCAA Regional trip. He qualified as an individual as a freshman and sophomore and led the Flames to their first Big South title last year.

The top five teams from each regional, plus the low individual golfer from each site, will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., May 29 – June 3.
