Get to Know Trevor: His Story in 4 Minutes

Liberty Men’s Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt has announced the promotion of Trevor Foshey to associate head coach for the Flames.

“Trevor consistently models the standards of our team culture. He sets a high bar for our team on the court with his energy, focus and work ethic,” Schwandt said. “He cares deeply about our student-athletes’ growth as people. Trevor is a champion for Christ who makes our team better every day.”

Foshey has been the Liberty men’s tennis assistant coach for the past three seasons following a distinguished four-year playing career for Mississippi State. During those three years, Foshey helped Liberty win back-to-back ASUN Championship titles in 2021 and 2022. The Flames defeated FGCU in the ASUN final in both seasons and posted a program-record 20 wins in 2021. Foshey and the Flames have posted a combined 41-24 record and a 12-2 ASUN mark since the start of the 2019-20 season.

Foshey helped the Flames achieve a No. 39 national ranking at the end of the 2021 campaign, the best mark in program record. Over the past two seasons, Liberty has been nationally ranked 19 times. The Flames were ranked in 12 straight listings to close the 2022 season, finishing the year with a No. 66 ranking.

Foshey and the Flames made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Team Championship in 2022, facing No. 20 NC State in the opening round.

Foshey and Liberty posted an 8-6 record in his first season with the program in what was a shortened season. The Flames defeated an ACC school for the first time, topping Virginia Tech 4-3. Liberty also earned its first triumph over a Big 10 foe in school history with a 5-2 win at Penn State.

In his time as a student-athlete at Mississippi State, Foshey won back-to-back SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament titles in 2018 and 2019 and was named Tournament MVP in 2018.. The Bulldogs Mississippi also finished No. 5 in the NCAA in 2018 and No. 9 in 2019.

Additionally, Foshey earned the 2019 ITA Most Improved Senior Award for the Southern section. The St. Cloud, Fla., native reached as high as No. 7 in the nation in doubles and No. 93 in the country in singles. He won 75 doubles matches and 64 singles matches over his four-year career with the Bulldogs, including a combined 46 victories (25 singles, 21 doubles) as a senior.

Other accomplishments for Foshey included: SEC All-Tournament team (2018), ITA Southern Regional Singles Finalist (2018), NCAA Doubles Championship Round of 16 participant (2017), ITA Southern Regional Doubles Finalist (2017), NCAA Doubles Championship At-Large Selection (2017), ITA Scholar-Athlete (2017 and 2018) and ITA Southern Regional Doubles Finalist (2016).

Foshey graduated from Mississippi State in May 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a 3.8 GPA.
